RDO is the pan-European trade association representing the timeshare and fractional industry as well as all other vacation ownership concepts such as private residence clubs, condo hotels and destination clubs.
Formerly known as OTE, it changed its name to RDO in March 2009.
Funded by its membership, which includes resort developers, exchange companies, trustees, management companies, resale companies and finance providers, RDO promotes the positive development of the vacation ownership industry throughout Europe.
It encourages best practices amongst its members, all of whom sign up to a code of conduct and arbitration scheme, providing levels of protection over and above those required by law.
RDO offers a free conciliation service if a complaint is made about one of its members. A low-cost mediation and arbitration scheme is also available in the unlikely event that a complaint remains unresolved.
RDO cooperates with governments at a national and international level to ensure that the interests of the industry as well as owners are safeguarded when legislative changes are under consideration.
Vacation ownership has evolved into a highly respectable industry which includes many well known hotel and hospitality groups including Hilton, Marriott, Sol Melia and Starwood. Few complaints are made about vacation ownership, the majority relating to fraudulent activity outside of the industry. As many of these practices affect timeshare owners, RDO has set aside a significant budget to tackle fraud and works closely with European Consumer Centres, the police in Spain and other organisations such as the Office of Fair Trading in the UK, to assist in eradicating fraudulent practices.
RDO also carries out industry research, provides education and training programmes for its members and organises the largest annual timeshare conference in Europe each year.
