Virgin America is launching a new non-stop commercial flight service between New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) and Palm Springs International Airport (PSP) in southern California.
The new direct service will operate Saturdays through to the end of April and supplements the airline’s existing seasonal daily connecting service from JFK to PSP via San Francisco. With a journey time of just over 6 hours from JFK to PSP and one-way fares starting at $145 inclusive of taxes and charges, bookings for the new service are reported to be strong.
Palm Springs’ winter climate is legendary and the area is well served with five star timeshare resorts, many of them the shared ownership divisions of the world’s leading hotel brands. Holiday makers attracted to the glamour of Palm Springs will enjoy Virgin’s signature passenger service, contemporary cabins (featuring relaxing "mood lighting") and unrivalled in-flight entertainment.
Palm Springs has long been a favourite haven for northern "snow birds" and the city’s year-round sunny and dry climate and beautiful setting – in a lush desert valley encircled by mountains – also offers something for everyone, even skiers! World-class resorts and golf courses, miles of outdoor trails, visionary modern and mid-century architecture, and a packed calendar of cultural, music and film events now attract over 1.5 million visitors to the Palm Springs area each year.
