If the ice cold elderflower cordials of summer 2014 feel like a lifetime ago, and the hectic streets and shops take the sparkle out of Christmas shopping, it might be time to book your next winter sun timeshare break – preferably in one of the world’s warmest destinations.
The rain and cold months ahead will feel a million miles away when you’re lying on one of the hottest beaches this winter. Here’s our guide to inspire you….
The Gambia – average highs 31C
Gambia may be the smallest country on mainland Africa but it’s sure to put the biggest smile on your face when you step off the plane. With soaring temperatures, a beautiful coastline and plenty of outdoor activities, Gambia is the perfect place to relax away from the dreary weather back home. The best thing is it shares the same time zone as the UK so you won’t waste a day getting over jet lag. Wildlife lovers will love a town called Bakau is famous for its crocodile pools, botanical gardens and bird watching – it’s just west of the capital Banjul, a great base for your holiday.
St Lucia – average highs of 28C
The typical postcard – breath-taking views, long white beaches and crystal clear waters, St Lucia’s natural beauty will soon have you uploading photos to Facebook, recommending your resort to friends. December is the beginning of the dry season that lasts until about April/May time so temperatures will be beginning to peak. This is an island that is perfect for families and honeymooners alike with its warm temperatures, stunning sunsets and fantastic water sports. Make sure you visit the UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Les Pitons peaks, to see the two volcanic ‘plugs’ standing at 770 meters high!
Dominican Republic – Average highs of 29C
Popular long haul timeshare destination the Dominican Republic has a strong Latin accent, full of vibrant, colourful and upbeat ambiance which is sure to put some colour back in your cheeks.
Cape Verde – Average highs of 26C
Cape Verde is a fairly manageable 6-hour flight from the UK yet it only has a one hour time difference with Greenwich Mean Time, so again it’s an ideal holiday choice if you want to skip jet lag. Definitely a hot spot for all the family, you’ll be spoilt for choice when it comes to activities, whether you want to lie on the beach and soak up some vitamin D or get out on the water and try something new. A variety of water sports is available or try and spot whales and turtles along the 11-kilometre stretch of sandy beaches.
Mexico – Average highs of 28⁰C
If you’re happy to fly a bit further away, Mexico is the place to visit with huge amounts of history, culture and atmosphere waiting to be soaked up. The temperatures can reach the mid thirties so make sure you arrive armed with a high factor SPF! For your culture fix why not head along to many of the Mayan ruins such as Chichen Itza, the largest Mayan city, which still today have an almost mystical, lost-in-time feel to them. Afterwards, relax on the coast while getting up close and personal with the friendly local dolphins!
The Gold Coast, Australia – Average highs of 27C
The Gold Coast is a must-see and although far away it is definitely worth the trip – if you have the time, it’s worth booking an extended timeshare trip to really make the most of it. Our British mid winter is Australia’s peak summer, so be warned, as temperatures can reach up to 40 degrees so take lots of sun cream and be sure to cover up. Early December is when the Gold Coast is at its quietest so you wont be joining hoards of tourists at the amusement parks and beaches. With plenty of water sports, fishing trips and wildlife sanctuaries you definitely will not get bored!
