Oceania Cruises’ new 1,250-guest cruise liner Riviera will be treated to one of the most glamorous send offs ever, when she’s christened in Monte Carlo next spring. The lavish, invitation-only gala ceremony on April 19 will take place on the pier at Monaco’s Port Hercules in the south of France.
The pier area will be transformed into a garden with trellises of fresh flowers, plants and columns, all inspired by the famous Princess Grace Rose Garden and following the ceremony guests will board the Riviera for a gala reception and VIP dinner.
“We are delighted that Oceania Cruises has chosen Port Hercules as the spot to launch its new Riviera,” said Maguy Maccario, Consul General of Monaco and director, North America, Monaco Government Tourist Office. “We look forward to welcoming Riviera and her invited guests to the Principality of Monaco for what will surely be an exciting event, set against the backdrop of one of the most glamorous destinations in the world.”
Kunal Kamlani, Oceania Cruises’ president, added, “It is truly an honour and very fitting that we christen Riviera – the newest jewel in the Oceania Cruises’ fleet – in Monte Carlo, certainly the crowning jewel of the Riviera. The success of Marina, launched earlier in 2011, has heightened the anticipation for Riviera in the marketplace and we look forward to officially welcoming her next spring.”
Following the christening cruise, Riviera will set sail on her maiden voyage, a grand, 12-day Ancient Grandeur sail around some of the most historic ports in the Eastern Mediterranean. She’ll leave Athens’ main port Piraeus on April 24, visiting Alexandria and Port Said, Egypt; Haifa and Ashdod (Jerusalem), Israel; Rhodes and Patmos, Greece; and then head to Turkey, to Alanya, Kusadasi (Ephesus) and Istanbul, where the ship will stay overnight. Riviera will spend the summer and fall cruising the Mediterranean and then cross the Atlantic to the Caribbean for her winter cruise season in warmer waters.
One of the real highlights of Riviera’s luxurious design is her 625 elegantly appointed and custom-crafted suites which are among the largest in the cruise world and range from 174 to over 2,000 square feet. Her most exclusive suites will be furnished with Ralph Lauren Home and designs by Dakota Jackson of New York and S.B. Long Interiors of Greenwich, Connecticut. Riviera will have a stunning, Lalique-designed grand lobby, 10 onboard dining choices as well as a variety of bars and lounges. Facilities will include the signature branded Canyon Ranch SpaClub, Bon Appetit Culinary Centre, a swimming pool and jacuzzis.
