Sol Melia now alongside Starbucks, O2 and Yo! Sushi on the social network

Sol Melia is now part of the Facebook Deals platform, a pioneering project by the social network which has launched in Britain, France, Germany, Italy and Spain.

The Spanish hotelier, which runs a highly successful shared ownership division, is moving forward with its 2011 social media strategy to increase its visibility and spread the word online with special offers at its network of hotels.

To access the offers, visitors to Facebook need to register via “Facebook Places” and look for the yellow ticket which shows offers at local stores. Sol Melia is offering discounts of up to 50% at Spanish Meliá, Gran Meliá and ME by Meliá hotels and resorts as well as YHI Spas.

Sol Melia CEO Gabriel Escarrer says, “Social Networking is the new escape, and as a leader in our industry, we must anticipate consumer habits, responding with a strong positioning strategy that allows us to approach to them, listen and deliver what consumers need.”

The hotelier already has more than 40,000 fans in its Facebook group and has been using social networking sites in recent months to promote its products and campaigns, including its 2010 Christmas charity campaign.

The group was founded in 1956 in Palma de Mallorca and has grown into one of the largest hotel and resort brands in the world; it is Spain’s leading hotel name. The brand also has an vacation ownership division, Sol Melia vacation Club, one of the top names in the timeshare industry.
