New Hilton Sharjah near Dubai to open later this year

Sharjah celebrates its first ever Light Festival this month

A new Hilton in Sharjah near Dubai due to open towards the end of this year will mark the hotel group’s tenth property in the United Arab Emirates.

The Hilton Sharjah will be just six miles from Dubai International Airport, one of the world’s busiest flight hubs and the 259-room property is situated on the Corniche Road, convenient also for Sharjah International Airport which is a short drive away.

Sharjah is the third largest of the seven emirates that make up the UAE. It’s a destination of contrasts, with modern hotels and shopping malls, heritage sites and museums, souks, beaches and lagoons and is the only emirate to have land on both the Arabian Gulf Coast and the Gulf of Oman.

It’s also the new home of the first ever Light Festival (February 10-18, 2011) in the region, with displays across twelve locations in Sharjah, including the Central Souq and Al Majaz Park. The light shows are dazzling extravaganzas of choreographed coloured lights and music illuminating major landmarks, are an innovative way to show off the beauty of the city’s magnificent Arabic architecture at night.

The new Hilton Sharjah is being designed for both business and leisure travellers and will offer a variety of restaurants and five boardrooms, one ballroom and a business centre, as well as a health club and two swimming pools.

"Sharjah is unique in character and a buoyant new market for tourism in the UAE. It offers leisure travellers the opportunity to sample authentic Emirati culture as well as cultural havens such as its many museums and souks. The emirate’s proximity to Dubai means it is strategically close to one of the world’s gateway cities and its growing industrial stature makes it an attractive business tourism destination," said Rudi Jagersbacher, president, Middle East and Africa, Hilton Worldwide.

The DoubleTree by Hilton Ras al Khaimah, Conrad Dubai and Hilton Dubai Jumeirah Beach Residence are also in the development pipeline and due to open this year. Hilton Worldwide has 44 hotels across 14 countries in the Middle East & Africa with another 31 properties to come.
