And the Winner is . . .
Of all the world’s cruise destinations, Alaska has come out on top, according to a panel of 13 experts for the Cruise Show in London (March 27th and 28th) who selected the unspoilt region as their number one choice.
The runner-up regions were:
The Black Sea
St. Petersburg, dubbed “The Venice of the North”
The Corinth Canal (Greece)
The Middle East (one of this year’s most up-and-coming destinations).
Although many of us associate cruises with the hot spots of the Mediterranean or the Caribbean, embarking on a more unusual cruise is a way to see the parts of the world that other holidays don’t reach.
The judging panel comprised travel writers, cruise line representatives and media travel specialists. Judge Jane Archer, cruise correspondent for the Daily Telegraph (Travel), the show’s prime sponsor, said: “One of the best things about crusing is the diversity of places you can visit. There are all the iconic cities in the Mediterranean and Baltic, which attract huge numbers of cruisers, but then you can also get way off the beaten track, discovering remote and exotic places and seeing sights that non-cruisers can only dream about.”
