Legendary Palais Stephanie Hotel reopens under the Marriott Brand
As part of its dynamic expansion plans JW Marriott is about to open a new signature hotel in the south of France on Cannes’ most famous boulevard, La Croisette. The “new” Marriott hotel is actually the recently refurbished Palais Stephanie which will now fly the JW Marriott flag and be managed by the Jesta Group.
Cannes, on France’s Cote d’Azur, is the home of the annual Film Festival. In fact the glamorous “city-by-the-sea” itself has featured as a location backdrop in a number of movies. The Hotel has a special history, having been built on the former site of the Palais des Festivals of Cannes where the original International Film Festival took place while it ran from 1946 to the mid ‘80s.
As a tribute to its star-studded history the hotel has been renovated to reflect its glamorous movie heritage; enormous black and white photos of film icons such as Brigitte Bardot and Sophia Loren decorate the walls of private suites and a feeling of elegant yet modern style permeates the whole hotel.
Marriott is one of the leading hotel and shared ownership brands in the world and last year the group announced its ambitious plans to double its portfolio in Europe by 2015.
When it opens prior to spring, the JW Marriott Hotel Cannes will offer 261 guestrooms furnished in a modern, warm sophisticated colour scheme and the hotel will offer a select number of luxurious ocean-facing suites with panoramic views of Cannes and the Mediterranean Sea. The rooftop has a swimming pool and Jacuzzis and the hotel will boast one of Cannes’ few private sandy beaches. La Scena Lounge Bar and Restaurant features an international menu that includes specialities from Italy, France and Japan.
JW Marriott is part of the Marriott International group. It’s the fastest growing luxury brand under the Marriott umbrella and as the group expands its presence on a global scale, twenty properties are scheduled to open over the next five years, raising the total portfolio to more than 65 hotels in 27 countries.
