New Flights: Luton to Crete, Gatwick to Barcelona

EasyJet and Monarch have launched two new flights to Crete and Barcelona respectively, servicing the two popular timeshare destinations. Both new routes are bookable online as of this week.

Luton to Heraklion once a week

EasyJet will launch its new route from Luton airport to Heraklion in Crete for the first time, commencing late April 2012. The once weekly flight further expands the airline’s Luton hub where sixteen aircraft are based, servicing 35 routes including Istanbul, Mallorca, Cyprus, Barcelona and Munich.

Crete is the second new route to be announced from Luton Airport in the past few weeks. Just last month the airline confirmed it will begin operating a new route to Corfu twice a week from 31 March 2012.

Crete is the largest of all the Greek islands and the fifth largest island in the Mediterranean Sea (it’s the second largest in the Eastern Mediterranean region, after Cyprus). It has two climatic zones, Mediterranean in the north and North African in the south.

Gatwick to Barcelona – daily

Monarch’s new scheduled flights between London Gatwick and Barcelona have started (as of October 21) and will increase to 11 flights per week from 30 October 2011, bringing the total number of scheduled destinations served by Monarch from its Gatwick hub to 13 in all.

Commenting on the launch of this new route, Managing Director of Monarch Airlines, Kevin George said, “Barcelona attracts a broad mix of visitors for business, city breaks and leisure and we have been delighted by our customer’s reaction to the new service and the demand for the route.”
