Hot city break for autumn : Lisbon

Ryanair has launched two more weekly flights to Lisbon for those looking to jet off to the Portuguese capital for a spot of sightseeing.

The budget airliner has unveiled two new flights from Manchester this autumn, making a weekend city break using your timeshare points, or a last-minute beach break easier than ever before.

A popular year-round destination due to its pleasant climate, sea breezes and extraordinary history, Lisbon is just over a two-hour flight from the UK – what’s more, the Post Office has just named it the most affordable city in the Eurozone.

British Airways, TAP Portugal, easyJet and Ryanair currently operate over 120 weekly flights to the Portuguese capital from Edinburgh, London and Bristol.

Lisbon is a fantastic destination for travellers who are time-poor and budget-savvy, and the purchase of a Lisboa Card offering free travel on public transport means you can get to explore the entire city to your heart’s content without having to pay extra fares.

It also gives access to the Rossio-Sintra and Cascais-Cais do Sodré train lines as well as free or discounted entry to 26 museums and places of interest.

Meanwhile, the stunning two UNESCO World Heritage sites Mosteiro dos Jerónimos and Torre de Belém, and the Lisbon’s City Museum are just a few of the attractions which are free to card holders.

There’s more good news for travellers too – according to the Post Office’s 2014 City Costs Barometer, Lisbon ranks as the most affordable city break destination in the Eurozone.
