For Sale: Stansted Airport

Major airports operator BAA is accepting bids for Stansted airport along with either Edinburgh or Glasgow, one of which will be sold along with the popular London airport next year.

Following a ruling by the Competition Commission, BAA have been told they must sell Stansted and the other Scottish airport, but the BAA has until September 19 to lodge an appeal and will make a decision in the next two weeks. The Competition Commission told BAA it must start the selling process for Stansted within three months, with either Scottish hub after that.

Among the bidders may be consortiums who bid for Gatwick a few years ago which in the end was sold to Global Infrastructure Partners. Stansted will cost a cool £1.35 billion, according to a report in the Telegraph.

EasyJet, Ryanair, Pegasus, Air Berlin and German Wings are the main airlines that use Stansted as a major hub.
