BA to increase long haul routes served by its new aircraft this summer

There’s good news for timeshare owners planning a long haul break later this year, as British Airways announces it will be increasing the number of routes operated by its new aircraft this summer.

BA continues with its ongoing investment in the airline’s fleet, which now includes three A380s and four 787s.  BA says the A380 craft will commence flights to Washington in the USA from September 1.

The aircraft currently flies to Los Angeles and Hong Kong and will also start services to Johannesburg in February.

The 787s will launch on services to Hyderabad in India, from 30 March, Chengdu in China from 5 May, the US city of Philadelphia from 5 June and Calgary in Canada, from 5 July 2014.

BA also revealed plans to increase the number of flights to Chengdu from three to five a week, starting on May 5.

From May 6, Tokyo Haneda will move from five-a-week to daily flights, as well as operating with a more convenient 8.50am departure from Haneda.

Meanwhile, Mexico City will also benefit from an increase from five to six services a week from 27 April.

Richard Tams, British Airways’ head of sales, said: “Thanks to the arrival of the new aircraft – the centrepiece of our £5 billion investment in improvements for our customers – we’re delivering on our promise to introduce new destinations and an even better schedule.

“We’re receiving great customer feedback on our new aircraft so we’re delighted to be able to roll them out across more of our network and hope our customers enjoy them on these important Indian, Chinese and American routes. More destinations will follow as we will receive 12 A380s and 24 787s over the next three years.

“We’re also pleased to be able to increase services to the likes of Chengdu, Haneda, Mexico City and Cape Town where there is significant demand and we know regular direct flights are important to our customers.”

BA is investing more than £5bn in new aircraft, smarter cabins, elegant lounges, and new technologies to make life more comfortable in the air and on the ground. BA is the first airline in the UK to fly the A380 and the first in Europe to fly both the A380 and 787.
