Holidaymakers are feeling the love for European holiday destinations right now, according to new figures from a top holiday search website.
The figures show a dramatic surge in the number of searches to European destinations, with Corfu topping the wish list (up 130%).
Glamorous French destinations Cannes and Nice (both up by well over 90%) were the next most popular, while the Portuguese capital of Lisbon saw searches rise by 89%.
Meanwhile, Rhodes saw a rise of 84%, making it the second Greek island to make it to the top 10. Greece appears be a popular choice with both Kefalonia and Kos also reaching the top 10, with searches increasing by 77% and 58% respectively.
That’s not to say Britain’s beauty spots don’t get a look in. The British staycation was also popular over the late August Bank Holiday, with the Lake District topping the list of top 10 UK destinations that have seen an increase in searches.
Ambleside and Windermere were the winners – up 150% and 89% respectively and Cornwall and Scotland also drew visitors.
Timeshare owners who took a break earlier this summer but still have points to spare to use for a long weekend escape have a wealth of resorts to choose from in the UK – Cornwall, the Lake District, Devon, the Highlands and Welsh seaside resorts are perennial British favourites and even easier to get to now that everyone’s back to school and the roads are less busy.
September and October are perfect months for a golf getaway, too, to enjoy the panoramic gold and copper foliage of the Scottish moors and mountains, a few days of great golf, cosy suppers and maybe even some local whisky tasting by the fireside.
