In a recent TripAdvisor survey, travellers rated their ten favourite water parks in the USA, and (no surprises here) timeshare owners’ favourite Florida scored high, with two of the world’s most famous water parks making the top ten.
Now that Club La Costa has two resorts in Orlando – Encantada and Regal Oaks – both just minutes from some of the best attractions, this winter might be the time to escape the UK gloom and get a dose of Florida sunshine along with a drenching.
In the TripAdvisor results, both Wondrous Waves at Typhoon Lagoon, and the aptly-named Watery Wonderland, Aquatica at the legendary SeaWorld, made the US top ten.
Wondrous Waves at Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon in Orlando has everything water babies could want – body slides, inner tubing, even surf lessons. There’s a new attraction, the Crush ‘n Gush Water Coaster, which from the sounds of it is possibly not for the faint-hearted. Visitors can raft their way along Castaway creek, 2,000 ft of waterways which will take you around the park, or, for a slightly scary (but safe) taste of what it’s like to be up close and a bit too personal with sharks and stingrays, there’s Shark Reef. You can snorkel underwater and stare at those sharks and fish, all conveniently separated from humans by a thick glass divider. The setting is green and tropical and it’s a great place to cool off if the weather gets too hot.
You can’t leave Orlando without a trip to Aquatica at SeaWorld. The new Universal Orlando Wizarding World of Harry Potter attraction, Walt Disney World and SeaWorld are Florida’s three most famous theme parks, and SeaWorld’s an absolute treat. There’s Dolphin Plunge, where you can zoom through a lagoon in a submerged tube slide surrounded by a pod of smiling dolphins, or drift the afternoon away down Loggerhead Lane – it’s a lovely lazy river ride.
