Timeless timeshare favourite Spain welcomed a record 60.6 million international visitors in 2013 to overtake China as 2013’s third most popular tourism destination.
France came top of the class with 83 million international tourist arrivals, while the United States enjoyed 67 million, according to latest figures released by the World Tourism Organisation.
In a significant boost to Spain’s economic recovery, the tourism drive saw foreign arrivals surge by 5.6%, adding almost 11% to the country’s total GDP.
Marc Pritchard, sales and marketing manager for leading Spanish home builder Taylor Wimpey Espana, who have built luxury golf fractional homes in the south of Spain said: “There are numerous reasons why Spain still ranks top of the list for holidaymakers. For Brits, the easy to reach reliable good weather plays a big part, swapping grey clouds for blue skies.
“The strength of the pound against the euro means that visitors can get more for their money which has no doubt aided the increase in people snapping up attractive deals on hotel accommodation and rental properties.”
Spain remains the top shared ownership destination in Europe – with its “sister” islands the Canary Islands still the go-to short flight favourite for Britons looking to escape the cold grey skies of the UK in the winter months.
The Costa del Sol has more golf courses “per head” than any other destination in the world, and over 320 days of sunshine a year, throughout the year.
Club La Costa is the leading timeshare specialist in Spain and the Canary Islands, with luxury resorts close to Malaga and Marbella, all of them close to many of the best golf clubs on the entire coastline. CLC also offers yachting holidays through the Club La Costa Yacht Club, with Greece the spotlight destination this year – the season begins in May, with sailings all through summer until mid-October.
