Newcastle: The North East has so much to offer

Timeshare owners in the north east of England can enjoy a number of historical sites in the area, including Bamburgh Castle and Holy Island.

Other major attractions in the region are Cragside as well as Alnwick Garden and Castle, explained Sheelagh Caygill, spokesperson for Visit Northumberland.

With half-term coming up, there are a number of events to enjoy in the region as well.

One of these will be the 200th anniversary of the birth of Lord Armstrong, being held at the National Trust's Cragside, Ms Caygill noted.

She added that visitor numbers to the north-east have gone up slightly, as businesses saw positive results last year with the staycation trend and the coast doing particularly well.

Online tourism and accommodation directory iKnow-uk recently reported a rise in people looking to take a break in the north-east.

It found that more than one in ten (12 per cent) of those taking a UK holiday are planning to spend it in the north-east this year.
