There is much for timeshare owners to enjoy in Turkey and the tourism board for the country has recently pointed to the history and culture of Istanbul in particular.

The city is set to be the European Capital of Culture in 2010 and will be launching celebrations with a party on January 16th.

Following this, there will be a host of events throughout the year covering visual arts and museums, music and theatre, literature and cinema, among other areas.

In recent news, trivago.co.uk looked into the 50 most popular European beach destinations in 2009, with the popular holiday resort Belek on the Turkish Riviera said to have the best online reputation.

Meanwhile, Gokhan Yilmazer from Club Alla Turca has said that tourism to Turkey increases every year, while this year has seen a 22 per cent rise.

He added that a central reason as to why Brits are choosing Turkey over destinations such as Spain and Italy is that the euro is more expensive than the pound.
