Golden Destinations as Value of Gold Soars
With the value of gold reaching a historic high of $1,183 (£713.51) an ounce recently, Skyscanner has named some top destinations that have a relation to the precious metal.
One of these is The Golden Temple in Amritsar, India, a structure surrounded by a large manmade lake fed by a sacred spring. According to the website, the temple is the holiest shrine of the Sikh faith.
It also pointed to one of the most iconic structures in the US - the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco. As the longest suspension bridge in the world, it connects San Francisco Bay to the Pacific Ocean.
Another golden attraction, Skyscanner asserted, is the Tutankhamun Exhibition, which is currently in Dorchester, England, with different kinds of golden figures of the king on display.
Earlier this month, Skyscanner reported a 154 per cent rise in searches for winter flights from the UK to cities east of the Alps in 2009, in comparison to last year.
