Timeshare owners are likely to head towards the Caribbean for their winter breaks this year, it has been pointed out.

The trend of jetting off to non-euro destinations is to continue, explains Alistair Daly, marketing officer at On The Beach.

Brits head to the Caribbean for glorious weather, beautiful beaches and warm waters as they escape the cold, winter weather back home, he explains.

American resorts also look to be popular for holidaymakers this season, the travel expert added.

Furthermore, Brits are taking longer breaks to really make the most of their money, with figures from the firm revealing that the average stay is up to nine nights, from seven in 2008.

Sales of East Caribbean dollars shot up by 70 per cent in October, according to Hayes & Jarvis, with exchange rates for dollar destinations, and countries with currencies that float with the US dollar too, improving.
