This summer's timeshare staycation pick – the Isle of Wight

Not going abroad and thinking of hitting a British beach instead for your summer timeshare staycation?

The Isle of Wight has seen its fair share of festivals, art and celebrities and thanks to its dramatic landscape and yacht culture, it’s as popular now as it ever was, right back to when Queen Victoria took her holidays there in the 19th century.

Festivals and Bestival

Nowadays the Isle of Wight’s best-known events are the Isle of Wight festival and Bestival (which takes place towards the end of the summer during the first week of September). But if full-on festivals and the idea of camping in a field for 4 nights isn’t really your thing, there’s plenty going on in local venues such as pubs, art galleries – and even boats!

Lovely Ventnor on the south coast has become something of an Isle of Wight icon lately, hosting a variety of activities in summer coupled with an exciting, growing arts scene. Go back in time and hire a vintage beach shack for the weekend, complete with Cath Kidson style bunting and proper beds – like camping, just a little more civilised.

 The Film Festival

Perhaps the best week to go for art and film events is 11-15th August. This week plays host to the Isle of Wight Film Festival and the Ventnor Fringe, two festivals that shouldn’t be missed.

Ventnor has kept its idyllic lost in time seaside feel coupled with a more contemporary ambiance which makes this British beach classic a little more luxurious.

 Traditional Fish and Chips

On the food front, why not head to the Ventnor Haven Fishery to sample some of fresh fish – it’s a popular, typical chippy loved by locals. Opt for the crab and chips for a little indulgence after a day exploring and when evening arrives, find yourself a friendly bar with a beautiful view, order some chilled drinks and enjoy!
