Not the summer holiday you were thinking of? Iceland, your cool August escape

Famed for its phenomenal Northern Lights, steamy volcanic springs and urban chic, Reykjavik is one of the hottest places to visit at the moment.

But if you think that Iceland is best visited this winter, think again – the capital is perfect for a summery weekend city break, for the hot natural springs alone.

Plus, with refreshingly cool temperatures and an incredible 20 hours of non-stop sunshine, Iceland is one of the coolest places to see and be seen. Here’s why we’ll be heading to the capital  this summer:

1)    Adventure City

Hire a quad bike and steer your way across the rugged landscape, or take a scuba dive between tectonic plates – Reykjavik is the perfect place for adventurers and daredevils alike. If you’re looking for action, then snowmobiling and ice climbing are just two days well spent. However, if you’re looking for a more laid-back trip, relax your aching muscles in hot, natural outdoor baths after a hard day’s shopping in the city’s hip designer stores.

2)    Geothermal Playground

Enjoy the luxe, cutting-edge Hotel 101 for a truly indulgent stay, then hit the beautiful Thingvellir National Park for a spot of hiking. Here, you’ll be able to enjoy and multi-coloured sunsets that have to be seen to be believed.

Happy snappers must also head to Hallgrimskirkja Church, Reykjavik’s highest and most imposing structure, as well as the Vatnajökull Glacier. Here, take the perfect photo as the sun sets across the landscape, leaving trails of colour – blue, white and neon pink.
