Spain’s popular low-cost airline Vueling, which offers 550 national and international routes through its hub at Barcelona, has scooped a Budgie Award.
Vueling won an award for its website, vuelingcom, for its ease of use and easy ticket buying facilities and was shortlisted in two other categories.
The Budgie Awards recognise the efforts, accomplishments and positive contributions of companies and individuals in the low cost airline industry and Vueling competed against many leading names including Easyjet, Germanwings, Spirit, SkyExpress, Wizz Air and Virgin Australia.
Vueling CEO Alex Cruz collected the awards on behalf of the company and noted: "This recognises the ongoing work of all the young people at Vueling who develop new and innovative products and services as a daily challenge to pursue the growth of the company and our industry.” This is the third consecutive year that Vueling has received industry recognition in these awards. Last year Mr Cruz was named as Best CEO.
Vueling has expanded recently with two new international bases – one in Toulouse and one in Amsterdam and also has a strong network of flights out of Madrid. The northern Spanish airline added 26 new routes for summer 2011, bringing the total to 550 this year.
Its very varied flight destination list includes numerous cities in Spain, including internal national flights and flights to the Balearic islands, plus Eastern Europe, the Canary Islands, Greek Islands, Italy, Malta, Marrakech, Zurich, St. Petersburg and Moscow.
