Picasso Museum Malaga hosts Cruise Excellence Awards

The iconic “Museo Picasso Malaga” was the venue for the 5th Cruise Excellence Awards held in late February to celebrate the winners of this year’s Awards.

Almost 200 professionals from the Spanish and European cruise industries and some well known Spanish personalities attended the Awards which have been held every year for the past five years. The Awards are organised by Cruises News Media Group to promote Spain as a cruise destination and honour the best Spanish and European companies in the industry.

Malaga is one of the most popular timeshare holiday destinations in Europe and its recently revamped airport is by far one of the busiest in Europe during the peak summer season. Its Port is also a top destination for cruise ships en route to other Mediterranean beauty spots and a home port for a number of cruise liners.

Cruises have soared in popularity in recent years with the introduction of bigger, more sophisticated ships with signature restaurants and spas on board and a much wider variety of itineraries. Many timeshare owners can opt for a cruise instead of a land-based holiday depending on their membership and RCI and Interval International both offer cruises within their diverse international exchange programmes.

The winners of the 5th Cruise Excellence Awards are:

Best Crew: Pullmantur

Best Popular and Family Cruise Company: Pullmantur

Best Premium / Luxury Company: Celebrity Cruises

Best Entertainment / Animation: IberoCruceros

Best Value for Money: IberoCruceros

Best Ship on Mediterranean: Liberty of the Seas

Best Spanish Port: Malaga Port Authority

Best International Port / Destination Med: Venice and Dubrovnik

Best Branding Setting on Travel Agencies: Costa Cruceros

Best Image and Marketing: MSC Cruises

Best River Cruise Company: CroisiEurope

MSC Cruises was recognized for its "Best commitment to the Spanish market" – because of the number of Spanish ports it offers as part of its cruise itineraries, while Norwegian Cruise Lines and Star Clipper were awarded the "Commitment to Malaga”; both companies will be using the port as their home port as part of their 2012 itineraries.

The Cruise Excellence Awards are the only Spanish cruise awards. They were created primarily to promote Spain as a cruise destination, spotlight cruise holidays within the Spanish consumer market, and recognise the best companies which operate within the Spanish cruise industry.
