Phuket to host Thailand’s first-ever ITU Long Distance Triathlon Series event

The picturesque holiday island and timeshare favourite will enjoy major international coverage from the event, which will be screened to over 336 million viewers worldwide in November.

The long distance triathlon, presented by the Absolute World Group, is part of a triathlon weekend that will take place on November 9-10 in the famous beach resort of Patong. The weekend will start with a sprint triathlon, an Olympic distance triathlon and relay events.

The long distance event will take place on Sunday 10 November, and will include a 3km swim, an 80km bike and 20km run. Each event will be capped at 500 competitors, with prize money in excess of $40,000.

Marisol Casado, president of the ITU, said: “We are delighted Phuket is one of the hosts for the 2013 ITU Long Distance Triathlon Series. “We are confident the local organising committee, with the support of the Absolute World Group, will host a great event that will generate high interest in both triathlons and the beautiful island of Phuket.”
