The UK’s biggest ever survey of leading travel journalists has revealed their favourite holiday hotspots – and the ones to miss.
The report, carried out by travel inspiration website 101 Holidays, grilled the country’s hottest journalists to reveal all the countries, cities and secret beaches they loved the most.
France – a longstanding timeshare favourite, too – was voted as the best-loved country, followed by India and Italy. Meanwhile, New York grabbed top spot in the city rankings, followed by London and Paris.
Surprisingly, Las Vegas was named as the destination the writers would least like to revisit, followed by Qatar and Dubai.
More than 100 writers and editors took part, including Simon Calder of The Independent and travel writer and TV presenter Ben Fogle.
The survey revealed that beach lovers should check out Krabi in Thailand, which was named as the best beach resort in the world, while Holkham on the North Norfolk Coast took the title of best beach in the UK.
Thailand was the country with most ‘best beach’ votes, with the much-loved Cornwall receiving the most ‘best beach’ votes in the UK.
Meanwhile, London was crowned as the UK’s favourite destination, followed by Edinburgh and the Hebrides.
Their favourite airline was British Airways followed by Virgin Atlantic and Singapore Airlines but budget airlines Easyjet and Ryanair also made the top 10.
