No. 1 Traveller Lounge opens this summer
Anyone travelling through Gatwick’s North Terminal this summer with time to spare might want to pop in to the new No.1 Traveller Lounge. The spa and relaxation area, which are part of a £1 billion investment in the airport, will have a mini-cinema, pool tables, TV and Wi-Fi and for the £20 entry fee, travellers can spend up to three hours away from airport noise and relax in comfort prior to take-off.
The views may not be very spa-like (of the runway) but there will be ample complimentary food and refreshments, newspapers and magazines and also movies on hand to take the edge of air travel. Passengers will be able to buy last minute travel insurance, order foreign currency and shop for duty free (via. the lounge hosts, no less, from the comfort of their seat).
The 10,000ft2 spa and facilities is a first for Gatwick and is designed for families as well as couples. There will be hairdressing, massage, manicures and shower facilities for those with time for some pre-flight pampering as well as a designated play area for families with little ones. Business travellers who need to work in peace and quiet will have access to private meeting rooms and high-end business centre facilities.
No official opening date has been announced for the No. 1 Traveller Lounge but it is scheduled to open this summer.
Robin Longden, Gatwick Airport’s Chief Commercial Officer said: “At Gatwick, we want our passengers to feel as if their holiday starts right here at the airport and not at the point at which they reach their chosen holiday destination. Our £1 billion investment programme is geared towards making the passenger experience more pleasant and enjoyable – providing better, speedier check-in products, shorter queues at security and delivering more modern, spacious departure lounge areas. The new No.1 Traveller lounge in Gatwick’s North Terminal will compliment the improvements being delivered across the entire airport.”
