New Winter Flights to Turkey Announced As 2009 Arrivals Increase

Visitors will be able to fly into Turkey’s Antalya airport this winter from three UK airports – Gatwick, East Midlands and Manchester, as two operators, Thomson and First Choice, extend their year-round flight schedules, making it easier for timeshare members to catch some winter sun in that region.

Already one of the fastest-growing tourist destinations, Turkey is hoping that tourism in 2010 will further boost its economy. It has been giving Spain a run for its money in recent years – popular resorts such as Bodrum and Antalya have ample amenities, clean beaches, plenty of sun and the fact that Turkey is a euro-free zone is a significant plus.

Turkey also looks set to become a new timeshare favourite, with luxury resorts opening up in scenic locations – one example being Club La Costa’s Apollonium Spa and Beach Resort on the southwest Aegean coast.

Turkey has good reason to be optimistic about the growth of its tourism. Arrivals into Turkey were up 2.7% in 2009, despite tough global economic conditions, at a time when other destinations were experiencing a drop in numbers. Forecasters predict future Turkey trends will include an increase in health tourism (visitors coming for medical treatments and wellbeing breaks at spa resorts) and golf tourism will grow, with more golf-and-spa resorts springing up, along with celebrity golfer-endorsed courses. Currently Spain dominates the European golf scene, with more golf courses on the Costa del Sol per head than anywhere in the world.
