Monarch’s New Routes to Italy’s most Romantic Cities

Monarch is launching 14 new routes next summer, from London Gatwick, Luton, Birmingham and Manchester, to fly passengers to a broad mix of both leisure and business destinations.

The expansion comes after Monarch posted a loss in 2011 owing to “turbulent market conditions and high oil prices” but the airline’s Swiss Italian owners have injected £75 million into restructuring and new routes.

New routes now on sale for 2012 include flights to some of Italy’s most romantic destinations, as well as Heraklion in Crete, just in time for an early summer getaway. The routes are:

• Manchester to Dubrovnik, Milan, Venice and Verona.
• Birmingham to Dubrovnik, Heraklion, Milan, Rome and Venice.
• Gatwick to Dubrovnik, Heraklion, Milan and Venice
• Luton to Rome

Meanwhile, British Airways is commencing its daily Heathrow-Bologna service on April 29, 2012, adding to BA’s existing services to the northern Italian city. BA is also adding an extra daily flight to the “popular European holiday spots” of Barcelona, Brussels, Amsterdam and Rome during summer 2012.
