The 11th century fortress of Alcazaba was also a former palace, built by Malaga’s Arab rulers. Historians will love the fortress’s archaeological museum, which displays a variety of exhibits, including Roman mosaics and Moorish ceramics. Towering above the Alcazaba is the beautiful Gibralfaro castle, built in the 14th century to protect the fortress. Be sure to visit the castle’s outdoor café to soak up the sun and enjoy the breathtaking views.
CAC Contemporary Art Centre
Malaga’s contemporary art museum has become renowned for the quality of its exhibitions. Artists permanently on display include Miquel Barceló, José María Sicilia and Tony Cragg, and there are usually at least two temporary exhibitions to take in on a hot afternoon.
La Concepción Botanic Garden
The lush, tropical paradise of La Concepción is one of Europe’s most beautiful botanical gardens. With pristine gardens and a lush green forest, the gardens serve as a quiet retreat from the buzz of the city. It is easy to spend a whole day relaxing and unwinding here.
