British Airways’ spectacular new ‘Magic of Flying’ campaign has been hailed as one of the most innovative of the year, and here’s why it’s so clever…
Billboards at Piccadilly Circus and Chiswick have been digitally programmed to show a young boy looking up at the sky and pointing to actual British Airways flights as they pass over the ad – even more amazing is the fact that the billboard then identifies each plane’s flight number and destination as it passes overhead. So next time you’re flying over London to somewhere sunny for a timeshare break, your BA flight could be spotlighted on the billboard for Londoners to see.
The advert was developed by creative technology agency Ogilvy 12th Floor, and reminds people how magical flying can be, from a child’s perspective.
The huge billboard ads are able to interact with aircraft flying overhead thanks to surveillance technology custom built for the campaign.

Richard Tams, British Airways’ head of UK & Ireland sales, said: “Sometimes we forget how magical flying can be. The first time anyone gets on a plane is an unforgettable experience and we want to remind our customers of that feeling.
“We’ve all had conversations with friends and family wondering where the planes are going and dream of an amazing holiday or warm destination and this clever technology taps in to that and reminds people how accessible the world can be.”
