New holiday rental website lets timeshare owners rent unused weeks to holidaymakers searching for resort accommodation
Holiday Letting Shop (“HLS”) is a new site that bridges the gap between individual timeshare owners (as well as resorts with available inventory) and holidaymakers looking for resort-based self-catering accommodation.
www.holidaylettingshop.com is a live search site with a reservations and secure payment facility and users can search for specific accommodation by country, region and resort name.
Timeshare owners who have spare weeks they want to rent out can do so via. the website. HLS will provide a rental valuation of each week in question which is then listed on the site for holidaymakers to view and book. This facility is an alternative to having to sell timeshare weeks in other ways which can be a time consuming process.
Furthermore, resort operators with excess inventory at their resorts can become holiday affiliates and offer their properties via. the website.
Sharon Jackson, director of Holiday Letting Shop, says, “We believe that HLS offers a real alternative to timeshare owners who are currently thinking of selling their timeshare week because they cannot afford the maintenance charges, finance repayments or for other personal reasons.”
“We understand that selling timeshare weeks is not an easy exercise, especially with the number of scammers in the market, so it may be better for the owner to maintain ownership and rent it out to pay the on going maintenance charges. In this way, they still have access to the week should their situation change in the future”.
Harry Taylor, CEO of TATOC, an official timeshare owner organisation run by timeshare owners themselves, welcomes the new website: “The Holiday Letting Shop programme works for resorts too. If owners use this service, and at least get a contribution towards their management fees, the resort continues to have a fully paid-up member. It is also a great way for mature resorts to have a presence and distribution channel on the internet to support their own rental activity”.

Emil Collins has been involved in timeshare since 1993, working with a number of resort developers before setting up her own business TSS Marketing ten years ago.
TATOC, the Timeshare Association, formed in 1989, is the only elected consumer association representing the interests of timeshare owners in Europe. Its mission is to safeguard and enhance the timeshare holiday experience for existing and prospective users and to be the voice of owners.
