Holiday Hungry Brits to Spend More in 2012

According to a poll of over 20,000 people by a travel club this month, only 14 per cent of Britons plan to cut back on holiday spending next year.

Despite the economic climate, 33 per cent of those surveyed said they intend to splash out even more on their holidays in 2012, with Portugal the top choice for bookings with the travel club next year. In addition, the survey says 90 per cent of respondents will take the same amount or even more time out for holidays in 2012.

Some of the “destinations to try in 2012” suggested by the club, Voyage Prive, include Beirut, Lebanon’s capital, Vietnam, Bratislava, the Slovakian capital, Oman, and Mozambique.

Classic winter sun timeshare destinations such as short and mid haul favourites Malaga, the Canary Islands, Crete, Turkey, Egypt, Morocco and Portugal, are hopeful of a strong winter season for early 2012 as Brits are determined to escape for a bit of sun in January and February after the festive season. Long haul destinations high on the list include Florida, Las Vegas and South Africa, where the choice of timeshare holidays is second to none, will be top of many families’ lists. Like California, South Africa ticks a lot of boxes, including virtually guaranteed sun in the winter months, warm temperatures and a fantastic selection of beach, golf, urban breaks as well as stays at private vineyards. Thailand and the Caribbean are also solid timeshare favourites, with a number of new shared ownership resorts opening in Thailand and the Caribbean recently.

A major advantage for timeshare owners is that they have already paid for their future holidays in advance, and are not subject to fluctuating hotel rates.
