Based on the world-renowned game, the Angry Birds Activity Park will open its doors this autumn in Puerto Rico, a popular resort destination in Gran Canaria. The news follows the successful launch of three parks in Kuusamo, Saariselkä and Saimaa in Finland already.
Vesa Tengman, CEO of Holiday Club Resorts, said: “The European travel industry should concentrate more on content. Too often the focus is on accommodation – of which there is already an oversupply.
“Active holidays are pivotal in Holiday Club. The Angry Birds Activity Parks complement our concept, which offers besides high quality holiday accommodation and services also year-round activity possibilities.”
Holiday Club Resorts are banking on the fact that the new Angry Birds attraction in Gran Canaria is sure to appeal to local residents as well as international travellers and holidaymakers.
Calvin Lucock, managing director of Holiday Club Canarias, added: “We are all very excited about the imminent opening of the Angry Birds Activity Park in the municipality of Mogán.
“This new endeavour will certainly add value to Puerto Rico and attract more visitors to the area. Apart from being a significant tourist attraction, it will also serve the local people and create new job opportunities.”
The park will be constructed by the Finnish Lappset Group – one of the leading playground and exercise equipment producers in Europe – while local construction companies have been contracted to carry out preliminary building works.
A distinctive range of unique indoor and outdoor activities will be on offer, with the estimated opening date for the park set to be October 2013.
