Holiday Club continues to expand in Southern Europe

Holiday Club Resorts has announced its acquisition of the exclusive Hydros Spa & Wellness resort on the Costa del Sol as part of its ongoing expansion programme.

HCR aquired the Club Puerto Calma Group of Resorts in the Canary Islands just over a year ago, and then went on to sign a joint venture agreement with the Lopesan Group for the development of a selection of luxury villas in Melonaras, Gran Canaria.

The latest addition to its expanding portfolio is Hydros Spa & Wellness, a boutique hotel located in the popular tourist destination of Benalmadena which is a short drive from Malaga airport, making it an ideal choice for a golf-beach-sun getaway.

Vesa Tengman, HCR Group CEO said, “The Costa del Sol is a perfect location to add to Holiday Club’s exciting sun-destinations. This small but very distinguished resort will have plenty to offer to our owners.”

The accommodation at Holiday Club

Hydros Spa & Wellness resort comprises 4 Penthouse units, 12 one-bedroom units and 12 two-bedroom units. All the suites have been elegantly designed and have their own private Jacuzzi on the terraces with breathtaking views of the Mediterranean. HCR has confirmed it will sell the product as holiday ownership and shares were launched last week, on 1st June.

Calvin Lucock, MD of Holiday Club Canarias added, “Easily accessible with direct flights from most European cities and with an average annual temperature of 22C and around 320 days of sunshine, this high quality resort promises to be a favoured destination amongst our owners.

“The acquisition boosts the Holiday Club resort collection with yet another superb product that will enhance the Holiday Club guest experience even more.”

The Holiday Club Hydros experience will offer guests the opportunity to enjoy all of the highlights of the Costa del Sol, within easy reach of Malaga airport and in a luxurious and intimate setting.

Also referred to as ‘The Resort of the Senses’, the charming boutique hotel property was created to appeal to all five senses and the resort’s own ‘Tierra y Mar’ restaurant blends the best of Mediterranean cuisine with an international mix of flavours.

At the heart of the resort is The Spa & Welness Centre. An impressive glass dome bathes the entire area in natural light and large windows offer stunning views. Guests can enjoy a therapeutic workout in the water circuit, relax in the Turkish bath and steam sauna or take advantage of the numerous therapeutic and beauty treatments on offer.

Benalmadena is famous for its numerous attractions which include the award-winning Benalmadena Puerto Marina which rates amongst the best in the world. The situation and overall architectural design makes this harbour one of the most attractive places of its kind and it can accommodate 1,100 yachts. The port has a variety of bars and restaurants and it’s one of the Costa del Sol’s busiest leisure centres both day and night – the nightlife is excellent and the waterside setting makes it a special place for tapas followed by cocktails at one of the relaxed bars.

Other activities include Benalmadena’s very popular Aquarium, Sea Life, while the local beaches are excellent, boasting the Blue Flag for clean waters since 1987.

Only a short drive away is Malaga’s historic port, beaches and town centre, while further west is Marbella’s charming “casco antiguo”. Marbella Old Town is a must-visit for those new to the Costa del Sol with its gourmet restaurants, stylish boutiques culture and interesting history. The fishing village-turned celebrity favourite first attracted the rich and famous in the 1950s and has remained a jet-set destination since, because of its almost perfect climate, coastal setting and excellent shopping, bars and restaurants. Close by is Puerto Banús, where the yacht set moor during the summer party season and it’s also a great place for designer label shopping and star-spotting.

Golf is one of the highlights of a holiday on the Costa del Sol and with so many new courses mushrooming along the coast as well as inland, the Costa del Golf now has more courses per head than anywhere else in Europe. Some of the best championship courses include Valderrama, Finca Cortesin, Rio Real, Torrequebrada and Guadalhorce (designed by renowned Finnish architect, Kosti Kuronen) – all in close vicinity for those who want to get out on to the fairways. Southern Spain’s golf climate couldn’t be better, averaging around 325 days of rain-free sunshine a year.

HCR Group CEO Vesa Tengman concluded: “Following the course of our previous investments, this new acquisition will enrich Holiday Club’s existing resort portfolio considerably and is a positive step forward in our international growth strategy.”
