Portuguese workers are striking across the country today to protest against austerity measures and more than 470 international flights could be cancelled due to the action.
EasyJet has already had to cancel almost 50 flights and Ryanair cancelled 42 from across Europe. Airports affected include Lisbon, Faro, Porto and Funchal in Madeira.
Tap Air Portugal, the country’s national airline, can only guarantee four services to be in operation today and passengers on other airlines face the prospect of mass flight cancellations which look sure to have a knock-on effect tomorrow as schedules start to return to normal.
The workers are striking against the austerity measures the government has had to promise to adopt in return for a £67 billion international bailout.
