Holidaymakers driving or taking Eurostar to their French timeshare resorts may continue to face delays as French workers in Calais continue with disruptive action.
The latest in a series of headaches for holidaymakers heading to France from Britain may be another new strike by French ferry workers who have been blocking train traffic between France and England by climbing onto the tracks at Calais.
Angry at proposed job cuts, the workers’ blockades have further compounded a host of problems linked to the UK – France crossing, leaving drivers gridlocked in scorching sunshine.
Earlier this week, Eurostar travellers faced frustration and delays – Eurostar is Eurotunnel’s largest customer, taking around 10 million passengers across the English-French border every year.
Now, with an air traffic controllers strike planned in France this Thursday, even air travellers may have to deal with additional setbacks and schedule changes.
Meanwhile, the port of Calais is currently shut as the result of industrial action by MyFerryLink staff protesting over the sale of ferries to DFDS Seaways.
Holidaymakers driving to France this week who had planned to take a MyFerryLink crossing may be able to receive a full refund or a transfer to a Eurotunnel crossing, subject to availability. MyFerryLink advises anyone with questions to call 0844 2482 100.
Passengers who’ve booked with P&O Ferries and whose journeys have been cancelled should call the company to ask for a refund or make alternative bookings.
