EasyJet Hits 500 Route Milestone With New Milan Porto Flight

The launch of its Milan Malpensa to Porto route recently was a memorable one for every staff member at the airline: easyJet has finally reached its 500 route target.

15 years since its inception, the charter champion has become Europe’s number one transport network. It operates on 45 of Europe’s top routes and now has 19 bases in 28 countries and 182 planes flying the globe.

EasyJet pioneered the no-frills airline concept. Sir Stelios Haji-Ioannou founded the company in 1995, at the age of 28, and quickly consolidated his brand into the easyGroup of companies which includes easyCar, easyBus, easyHotel, easyCruise with the number of “easy” brands now approaching almost twenty.

Now over 300 million people live within an hour of an easyJet airport, which will enable the airline to grow by a further 10% and carry over 50 million passengers in the coming year.

At 39, Stelios received a knighthood from the Queen for services to entrepreneurship and his Stelios Philanthropic Foundation is now one of his most important initiatives. He’s passionate about preserving the marine environment and has long been involved in the World Wildlife Fund.

Announcing the 500 celebration, easyJet Chief Executive commented:

“To reach the milestone of 500 routes in less than 15 years of operation is an achievement of which I am very proud. Our increasingly strong position in Europe is a result of focusing on destinations customers find most attractive, at convenient times from the most convenient airports. Now over 300 million people live within an hour of an easyJet airport, which will enable the airline to grow by a further 10% and carry over 50 million passengers in the coming year.”
