Europe’s “Oscars of the Travel Industry”, the annual World Travel Awards were held at the Cornelia Diamond Golf Resort & spa in Antalya earlier this month.
Turkey is a now a prime timeshare destination, with developers such as Club La Costa expanding into the region. CLC members can holiday at resorts in various locations including a new golf resort at Kusadasi, the Apollonium Resort & Spa by the beach in Bozbuk, as well as hotels in Antalya and Bodrum.
The country still maintains its status as a non-euro zone and more flights to top Turkish holiday destinations including Antalya and Bodrum have made getting to its white sand and turquoise water shores easier and cheaper.
The spirit of the World Travel Awards is about celebrating the brands that consistently push the boundaries of industry excellence and more than 500 organisations across Europe entered a total of 125 categories prior to the awards night.
German airline Lufthansa shone on the night, winning Europe’s Leading Airline, while Turkey’s numerous wins reflect the fact that the country has grown its tourist industry even during the current downturn.
Istanbul scooped the Leading City Break Destination award while the Turkish Ministry of Culture & Tourism was named Europe’s Leading Tourist Board.
The glittering evening included a live performance by Turkish pop sensation Aydan Kaya and violin rock supremos Fuse.
Graham E. Cooke, President and Founder, World Travel Awards said: “During times of economic uncertainty world-class brands come into their own, continuing to grow market share whilst competitors flounder. Turkey in particular has showed its credentials as a world-class tourism brand, demonstrated in the number of top honours won by the nation’s top hotels and travel organisations.
“Antalya in particular represents brand Turkey at its finest. Its winning mix of heritage, sun-kissed beaches, state-of-the-art facilities and superb value has propelled it into the league of one of the world’s great destination cities.”
