One Island, Two Different Resorts – Petchey Leisure, Tenerife

Even though summer’s almost over in most parts of Europe, there’s one group of islands where the sun shines all winter. Just west of Morocco and south of Spain, the Canary Islands really come into their own when winter arrives.

One of the Canaries, Tenerife, is a fascinating contrast. Dry yet lush, warm but not baking in winter, the island’s climate and very different scenery (depending on whether you’re staying in the south or north) make it a great place for a late autumn fly-drive holiday.

Like its nearby neighbour the Costa del Sol, Tenerife has always been a timeshare favourite. Leading vacation ownership specialists Petchey Leisure have two main resorts on the island where guests can soak up the year-round sun, sea and squeeze in a few rounds out on the fairways.

Royal Park Albatros lies just 100 metres from the sea, near the 27-hole championship golf course, Golf del Sur, in the south of the island. The complex has 160 apartments, most of them with views to the large outdoor pool with its cascading waterfall and landscaped tropical gardens. There’s an adult and children’s pool, restaurant and plenty of nearby beaches and more golf within easy reach – as are Tenerife’s Loro Parque with its famous parrots, Quad Park and other attractions.

Club la Mar is in the picturesque fishing village of Puerto de Santiago on the island’s southwest coast, about a five minute walk from the well known blue flag beach Playa de la Arena. The resort is small, relaxed and friendly, featuring beautifully-furnished apartments and guests don’t have to go far to find more beaches and golf courses nearby.

The Canary Islands have been in the spotlight this year and the local tourist offices have been reporting an increase in visitors which is good news – more arriving during the winter months, no doubt, as the rest of Europe starts to cool down quickly as autumn sets in.
