Luxury Timeshare and Fractional Resort Oyster Bay Beach wins Travel + Leisure magazine award

Luxury shared ownership development Oyster Bay Beach Resort has been voted fifth in a poll of Travel + Leisure readers in the magazine’s 500 World’s Best Hotels for Value Awards. The resort recently underwent a $19 million renovation and was ranked in the top 100 last year.

The resort, which enjoys a pristine location in St Maarten, Dutch West Indies, is renowned for its high standards of service and amenities. Oyster Bay Beach Resort offers a wide selection of holiday ownership programmes, from timeshare weeks, quarter share and other fractional ownership, to full year-around ownership so its community is a mix of hotel guests as well as owners.

The Travel + Leisure 500 World’s Best Hotels Awards are based on a poll of its readers and this year Oyster Bay Beach Resort (OBBR) made it into the top 5 of the Best Hotels for Value in the Caribbean, Bermuda and Bahamas category, proving that the ambitious renovation has paid off.

"This is a prestigious award from a respected magazine that was only made possible by our aggressive renovations and our well-trained staff dedicated to creating a quality customer experience," said General Manager Ricardo Perez. "Of course, it doesn’t hurt to have such a unique location surrounded by the waters of the Atlantic and Oyster Pond."

Improvements include a four-storey, 40-unit, ocean front timeshare pavilion, as well as the "Lighthouse" – an eight-storey, 18-unit, whole ownership luxury condominium building with a beautiful rooftop infinity pool and exercise facility. More than 75 percent of the rooms at OBBR have been renovated, and further renovations are planned for 2012 and beyond.

Oyster Bay Beach Resorts has become one of the island’s most iconic properties thanks to its unique architectural style and its location at the eastern edge of St. Maarten, right on the Dutch-French border. The property has a 30-foot-high, all-glass dome above the Lighthouse condominium building with panoramic, 360-degree views of the Atlantic and Oyster Pond Marina. The Lighthouse dome is available to condominium owners for gatherings and various events.

Mr. Perez added that he felt the resort’s high standards of service and overall guest experience factor played a role in making it into the top 5 of the prestigious awards. Oyster Bay Beach Resort offers snorkelling, early morning aqua zumba lessons, dance classes, a movie night under the stars, weekly cooking lessons with the hotel’s executive chef and a weekly manager’s cocktail party featuring complimentary drinks and hors d’oeuvres complete with live music by a local band.
