Timeshare has come a long way since the fixed week, fixed destination days. Thanks to the leading exchange companies RCI and Interval International, swopping a week in Cornwall for a week in Crete – or even Capetown – is part of the flexible vacation ownership lifestyle.
This year, the usual close-to-home beach stays may get a run for their money as many travel experts are predicting 2012 could be the year for longhaul travel, with more exotic destinations getting a lot of attention.
According to bespoke travel specialists Hayes & Jarvis who have just released their 2012 trend report, there is a rise in bookings for multi-centre holidays. The greatest spike of interest is in destinations like Latin America – Costa Rica and Argentina topping that region – while the US remains an ongoing favourite for British tourists. San Francisco and Dubai are frequent one to two night stop-over destinations. Club La Costa Resorts & Hotels has a hotel nights programme where members can use their points towards city breaks or hotel stays in between two different destinations.
Some of the popular stop-off longhaul destinations include:
– California: combinations of LA, San Francisco, San Diego and national parks
– Thailand: Bangkok and Thai beach stay
– Cuba: Varadero and Havana
– Hawaii and San Francisco
– Malaysia: combinations of Langkawi, Penang, Kuala Lumpur and Borneo
– Dubai, en route to Mauritius or the Maldives
One of the top destinations for British travellers is California – it’s an easy drive from LA to San Francisco, or the other way around – and the US is famous for its beautiful drives which have inspired many a travel documentary about Route 66 and the Pacific Coast Highway which hugs Malibu on its way north.
Hayes & Jarvis’s top ten tailor-made destinations includes top timeshare favourites Thailand (where Absolute Resorts have a number of beautiful beach resorts), South Africa and the USA (Club La Costa recently acquired resorts Orlando, perfectly located for Florida’s most famous theme parks). Hayes & Jarvis top ten are:
– Sri Lanka
– South Africa
