Supermodels and top fashion designers were among those stuck on Eurostar trains yesterday as power cable problems in France ground some trains to a virtual standstill, with passengers stuck on board for up to eight hours (eleven hours, according to some reports). Many of those affected were on their way to the start of Paris Fashion Week.
Yesterday’s disruption continues today as delays are expected until lunchtime. Eurostar has apologised for “any inconvenience caused” and is advising travellers to check its website for updates. It says a faulty “EDF” electricity cable close to the high speed line between the Channel tunnel and Paris was to blame.
Eurostar’s website www.eurostar.com says:
Due to an overhead power cable on the line, Eurostar services between London and Paris will be running with delays until lunchtime Tuesday 6th March. In addition, trains 9009 9109 9014 and 9110 on Tuesday 6th March are cancelled.
Four high speed trains were cancelled yesterday afternoon and the same number will not run today, affecting some of those scheduled to travel to northern France today. Eurostar says “other services may also be subject to delay” and will exchange tickets for travel on other dates.
