A recent survey by Skyscanner reveals 23% of British families would rather travel abroad in October if they can, which explains why Dubai and Abu Dhabi come into their own at this time of year with an unprecedented number of flight searches for both destinations kicking in this month.
During Dubai’s property boom, timeshare and fractional developments in the Middle East have mushroomed at a very healthy rate, with premier vacation clubs such as Emirates Vacation Club and Arabian Falcon leading the way in luxury holidays in the region.
Skyscanner reports that searches have more than doubled for flights to Dubai and Abu Dhabi in a fortnight while Spain retains its reign as king of Europe. Other winter sun spots in the top ten include USA destinations Florida, California and Las Vegas, as well as Italy.
With winter on the horizon, and the south of Spain and France cooling down now, the Canaries also come into their own as a virtually guaranteed “year round sun” destination, along with North African hotspots including Marrakech and Agadir in Morocco and Sharm El Sheikh and Hurghada in Egypt. Tenerife, Gran Canaria and the other Canary Islands all reported a bumper influx of airport passengers last winter and this year could be even busier.
In the Skyscanner survey, Spain also scored well when respondents were asked for their best ever family holiday destination, second only to the USA. America taking the top spot was hardly surprising, as no less than 31% stated that a Florida theme parks holiday would be their idea of a dream family getaway, compared to 30% who wanted to go on a beach holiday and 21% who would opt for a safari holiday.
Sam Baldwin, Skyscanner Travel Editor said: “It’s clear from our rankings that good value destinations are ever popular with families, and with many Eurozone countries feeling the effect of the recession these destinations are proving as popular as ever”.
Club La Costa, Hilton, Petchey Leisure and Silverpoint all offer timeshare accommodation at resorts in the Canary Islands, while Hilton Grand Vacations has resorts in Sharm El Sheikh and Club La Costa’s Apollonium Resort & Spa on the southwest coast of Turkey is another popular escape for timeshare members when the British winter sets in.
