With UK temperatures still nippy first thing in the morning and early evening, who wouldn’t love to be whisked away to Marbella this weekend?
A jet setters’ hideaway back in the ‘50s and one of Britain’s favourite escapes today, Marbella’s temperatures are really warming up nicely this month. Night time temps are hovering in the high-ish teens, with day time numbers already well up into the mid to high 20Cs!
If you’re lucky enough to be visiting soon, we’ve rounded up 5 of our favourite places to eat out when you’re “tapa’d out” or have something special to celebrate…
A charming and very French/Belgian bistrot just a couple of streets north of Orange Tree Square, Casani’s artistic décor and equally artistic chef have garnered rave reviews on TripAdvisor. (The restaurant also has a delicatessen close by, selling a wonderful selection of French foods and preserves.) Tel. 952 900 450.
One of the relatively more recent addition to Marbella’s foodie scene (since 2005), Skina offers stand-out creative Mediterranean cuisine and a fabulous wine list at its chic cream and chocolate interior. There aren’t many tables so reservations at this superb and very intimate restaurant are a must – make sure you book early in the summer. Dinner only. Tel. 952 765 277.
Zafferano’s is a father and son-run newcomer which has generated serious praise from the food critics. Romantic and very Italian, its chef Davide studied at a prestigious cooking school in Parma in Italy. Now delighting the growing band of regulars with his homemade pasta and out of this world seafood. Very romantic and, like Marbella Old Town itself, quite magical at night. Tel. 952 863 125
The Orange Tree
Creative, modern cuisine where the innovative menu changes more frequently than the seasons, every six weeks. Just off Orange Tree Square in Plaza General Chinchilla. Open for dinner daily from 18:30 (early by Spanish standards!) +34 952 92 46 13
Not so much for a special occasion, but we had to include Zest! A popular café in a picturesque square next to the main church, this welcoming place is open all day, serving breakfast, lunch and light evening meals incorporating a fresh, healthy menu of smoothies, salads, sandwiches as well as homemade cakes and pasta dishes. Consistently good café food has made it a Marbella favourite, well worth a visit if you’re anywhere near the church!
