4 Different City Breaks That Won't Break The Bank

While the romance of Paris and the hustle and bustle of Rome may be well known, they’re not always the cheapest city breaks on offer.

If you’re looking to jet off and explore somewhere new but are on a budget, then here are our pick of the best city breaks that won’t burst your wallet.

1)   Fez, Morocco

Fez is one of our favourite up-and-coming destinations and is starting to steal much of the limelight from its more famous sister city, Marrakech. Fez bustles with with adventure, from ancient medinas to souks selling leather bags, babooshkas (pointed slippers), brightly woven Berber carpets and exotic spices and potions. The winding alleyways will always lead you somewhere new, making this the perfect place for culture lovers to explore, while the Nouvelle Ville (new city) is where many of the modern new hotels are.  And not many people know this but an hour’s drive up the mountain from Fez, in the Swiss style village of Ifrane, you’ll find one of Morocco’s best ski resorts!

2)   Tunis, Tunisia

If you’re a sun worshipper looking for a quick blast of vitamin D, then Tunis is your answer. It has some of the cheapest living costs in the world, meaning you can enjoy a beach break on a budget. While you’re here, be sure to explore the Bardo Museum, which showcases some stunning Roman mosaics.

3)   Zagreb, Croatia

This year’s Post Office Worldwide Holiday Costs Barometer revealed that Croatia makes for a great budget destination to visit, with the average cost of a basket of tourist items (including dinner for two, drinks and sun cream) coming in at £55.54. Zagreb also  has more museums per square foot than any other city in the world, while Jarun Lake in the south of the city is perfect for a restful retreat if you fancy a sail or to relax on the pebble beach. Croatia is a relatively new timeshare favourite and many say it’s one of the prettiest countries in Europe.

4)    Skopje, Macedonia

The capital of Macedonia has received a glamorous facelift lately, but it’s the city’s natural wonders that are the real draw. Matka Canyon, around 15 kilometres south west of Skopje, is not to be missed and is perfect for romantic walks in spectacular scenery. And the more adventurous can even enjoy a spot of kayaking.
