British Airways has painted a connoisseur-style moustache on to one of its Airbus A319 planes to help raise awareness for prostate cancer, as part of this year’s Movember campaign.
Those taking part started November clean-shaven and are now sporting an eclectic array of moustaches all over the world. The charity campaign idea took off like wildfire after it launched and BA is hoping to raise around £80,000 for Prostate Cancer Charity this month.
Kyle Patchett, a BA cabin crew member with an impressive moustache himself, unveiled the plane’s Movember makeover to the press.
Liz Wilkinson, the airline’s head of health services, said: “We’re always delighted to support Movember, it’s a charity that is very dear to our hearts here at British Airways, especially as our former CEO Lord Marshall suffered from the disease.
“As well as raising money, the aim of the campaign is to raise awareness on the importance of early detection and prevention of the illness.”
A spokesman for British Airways said it considered several styles of moustache for the aeroplane – including the pencil style, sported by moustached heart throb Errol Flynn, the handlebar, and the horseshoe (as worn by Hulk Hogan). It eventually opted for what it described as the “connoisseur” style which by all accounts suits the nose of the Airbus A319 perfectly!
