Staff at the ANFI timeshare group in Gran Canaria have been busy cleaning the beach of waste and litter to prep the coast before Christmas.
The team were supporting the ANFI CARES project which organises environmental projects to help protect the area as well as raise funds for UNICEF Spain, Manos Unidas and victims of the tsunami in Japan earlier this year.
Golf tournaments, beach clean ups and other charity fundraisers are all part of the overall project. Nearly a dozen divers made up the “Clean-Up” team who combed the seabed with the help of Scuba Sur diving school and Luis Molina Sports.
The divers managed to retrieve several kilos of waste, mainly glass and plastics, which can damage the seabed. They also came up with a surprise haul – a shopping trolley – and quite a few drinks cans.
The team plan to repeat the operation same time, same place, next year.
