Aloha Oahu! Disney’s newest resort opens this August

One of the specialities on the menu at the new Disney resort in Ko Olina on Oahu island in Hawaii will be Tuna Poke (prounced “pokay”). Created by Chef Patrick Callarec, it’s a local sashimi speciality made with lime, ginger and sesame seeds and it’s prepared using fresh “ama ama” caught in the waters surrounding the island. It’s delicious, raw and only takes a couple of minutes to toss together.

The brand new resort opens to guests on August 29, and there will be some “hidden” guests, too – statues of Menehune, the legendary island little people, will be hidden throughout the resort.

Disney’s expansion plans next year include new itineraries for Disney Cruise Line, when the Disney Wonder will depart from LA, calling in at ports including San Francisco, San Diego and Ensenada, Mexico. Also new will be a 15-night voyage to Hawaii from Los Angeles, calling on Hilo; Kahului, Maui; Honolulu, Oahu; Nawiliwili, Kauai; and Ensenada, Mexico. And for the first time, Disney Cruise Line Alaska cruises will depart from Seattle in 2012, along with Vancouver.

Autumn 2012 marks the start of another cruiseship, Disney Magic’s 7-night cruises from the Port of Galveston, Texas, to the Western Caribbean. She’ll be calling in at Grand Cayman and Mexico’s Costa Maya and Cozumel. The Disney Magic will also sail out of Port Canaveral, Florida, on Caribbean and Bahamian itineraries and, for the first time, out of New York with cruises to the Bahamas and the along the New England coast.

At Port Canaveral, Florida, Disney Fantasy (the newest member of the fleet) will depart March 31, 2012, on her maiden voyage – a seven-night Caribbean itinerary. She’ll be offering many of the innovative features that Disney Dream is famous for including Disney’s signature AquaDuck (modelled on our Disney friend Donald?) which is the world’s first shipboard water coaster.
