Alicante Top 10

If you’re looking for a scorching hot escape this summer but don’t want long flight times, then why not visit the Spanish city of Alicante? The historic city has plenty for both couples and families to see and do, making it the ideal holiday hotspot.  Alicante is one of Spain’s top timeshare destinations, but there’s much, much more to it than sand, sea and sangria, and if you are renting a car, it’s the perfect place for half day trips out of town as the region has so much to explore.

Here are our top things to see and do in the area:

1)        Alicante Marina

Soak up the atmosphere by relaxing and unwinding around the city’s beautiful marina. Enjoy some of the freshest fish you’ll ever taste, as well as perfect paella as you sip a glass of wine while watching the boats sail out.

2)        Explore the Caves of Canalobre

Based just 24km outside the city, these impressive caves are a must-visit. While you’re there, be sure to hike to the top of the slopes of Cabezon de Oro to see Alicante spread out below, then watch the sun go down from the cliff-tops.

3)        Make the Santa Faz Pilgrimage

The famous Santa Faz is Spain’s second largest pilgrimage. Early in the morning, crowds gather for the 8km walk from the city centre of Alicante to the Monastery of the Holy Face.

4)        Visit the Bullfighting Museum

The city has its own museum dedicated to Spain’s most famous and controversial sport, so have a wander and learn about bullfighting’s history and traditions at the Plaza de Toros Museum.

5) Enjoy Kite Landboarding

A must-do for any adrenaline junkies, Kire Landboarding is the latest craze to sweep Spanish resorts. Thanks to Adventure Sports Holidays, you can shoot across the sand at speeds of up to 40mph – and all on a block of wood.

6)        Go Dinghy Sailing

Top up your tan and entertain the whole family by spending the day dinghy sailing. This sport can be enjoyed by all ages and is a great way to stay active while on holiday.

7)        Try Paintballing

Great for stag dos, or for families looking for a buzz,  Alicante boasts one of the largest paintball arenas in the Valencia region, so get ready to be blasted.

8) Take a Safari

Get your camera ready and hit Vergel Safari Park to admire the lions, tigers, leopard and zebras. A great attraction to enjoy with children, this safari park is a real adventure and a brilliant day out for the kids.

9)        Make a splash at Europe’s biggest waterpark

Spain has its fair share of water parks and this is one of the most adventurous! Enjoy some of Europe’s most daring water rides as you cruise down the Rapids and brave the terrorising Black Hole at Aqualandia. Just a 30 minute drive north of Alicante, this makes a fun day out for all the family.

10)      Set sail for the island of Tabarca

If Tabarca doesn’t ring a bell, then why not explore it if you’re in Alicante this summer? Perfect for a relaxing day out away from the buzz of the city, this small picturesque island of Tabarca lies just 11 miles from Alicante and offers some breathtaking views. You’ll find crystal clear waters, 1,400 hectares of marine life and a sense of peace second to none.
