British Airways’ new service from Gatwick to Tenerife is off to a flying start, as seats sold out quickly for its inaugural flight on March 29.
The airliner became the only carrier offering business class seats to Tenerife when it launched its new five-day-a-week service just days ago. Tenerife is one of the world’s most popular timeshare destinations, so the news will be welcomed by owners who travel frequently to the island, and the business class option is ideal for couples heading to the island for a luxury honeymoon.
The UK is currently the largest overseas market for Tenerife, with nearly 1.6 million British tourists travelling to the island last year.
Carlos Alonso, Tenerife’s Tourism Minister, said: “The fact that the inaugural flight is already sold out weeks before departure is a very positive sign of how well the new route has been received, and a good indicator of future sales.
“This new service will satisfy the demands of the island’s tourism sector, particularly our 4 and 5-star hotels, as it will appeal to more high end and business British visitors.”
To promote the new route in the UK and attract the maximum number of travellers, the Tenerife Tourism Corporation signed an agreement with British Airways to carry out a joint marketing campaign, including outdoor and print advertising, social media and PR.
Flying time is four hours and the new service will run on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays.
